Between December 2025 and January 2026, law enforcement authorities from 16 African countries conducted a coordinated operation targeting online fraud schemes, with operational support from INTERPOL. The operation focused on criminal activities linked to online investment scams, mobile money fraud and fraudulent digital loan applications operating across national borders.
Participating authorities reported a total of 651 arrests and the recovery of approximately USD 4.3 million. Investigations identified more than 1,200 victims, with reported financial losses associated with the scams exceeding USD 45 million. During enforcement actions, law enforcement agencies seized over 2,300 electronic devices, including mobile phones and computers, and disrupted more than 1,400 IP addresses, domains and servers used to support fraudulent activities.
INTERPOL supported the operation by facilitating intelligence sharing among participating countries, enabling real‑time exchange of information, and providing technical assistance. This included analytical support and training related to digital forensics and cybercrime investigations. National authorities carried out arrests, seizures and other enforcement measures in accordance with their domestic legal frameworks. The operation formed part of ongoing international cooperation efforts addressing cyber‑enabled financial crime.
