On 13 May 2026, authorities in Ghana announced the arrest of three individuals in connection with alleged offences involving the production and distribution of exploitative imagery involving children.
The arrests were carried out by the Ghana Police Service in cooperation with INTERPOL and the Australian Federal Police.
According to the statement, the case originated from information shared through INTERPOL channels by Australian authorities. The information concerned an individual under investigation in Australia, who had allegedly received exploitative material from persons based in Ghana.
Subsequent investigations conducted by Ghanaian authorities led to the identification and arrest of the suspects in the Ashanti and Bono Regions.
Police reported that four children, aged between approximately six and thirteen, were located during the operation and taken into protective care. At the time of reporting, the suspects were in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
While the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL did not publicly specify which notices were issued during the investigation, the nature of the case indicates that intelligence‑focused notices were the most likely tools used. In cross‑border child‑exploitation investigations, INTERPOL commonly employs Blue Notices to collect additional information on suspects and associates identified in another jurisdiction. If any of the child victims were initially unaccounted for or required international assistance to confirm their identity or location, a Yellow Notice would have been issued. A Red Notice could also potentially arise if any suspect were to leave Ghana or be identified in another jurisdiction after a national arrest warrant is issued.
INTERPOL Notices are international alerts circulated among its 196 member countries to support police cooperation. All notices must comply with INTERPOL’s Constitution and its Rules on the Processing of Data, ensuring that information shared across borders is compliant. Complete information on the different types of Notices can be found on INTERPOL’s Notice page.
