Peters & Peters authors England & Wales chapter for inaugural Global Legal Post White-Collar Crime Comparative Guide

Senior Partner Michael O’Kane, Partner Maria Cronin, and Of Counsel Rachel Cook and James Tyler have contributed the England & Wales chapter to the inaugural Global Legal Post White-Collar Crime Comparative Guide.

Published as part of Global Legal Post’s Law Over Borders series, the guide brings together practitioners from jurisdictions around the world to provide a comparative overview of the legal and regulatory frameworks governing white-collar crime.

The England & Wales chapter explores the UK’s approach to investigating and prosecuting economic crime, covering key areas including fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering, sanctions offences and corporate criminal liability. It also examines the increasingly complex enforcement landscape, including the role of domestic enforcement agencies, cross-border cooperation, internal investigations, whistleblower protections and Deferred Prosecution Agreements.

The chapter highlights recent developments in the UK’s economic crime framework, including reforms introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, which expanded the circumstances in which organisations may be held criminally liable for economic offences and introduced the new failure to prevent fraud offence.

Designed as a practical resource for lawyers, compliance professionals and in-house counsel, the guide provides insight into how jurisdictions investigate, prosecute and combat financial and corporate crime, while identifying emerging trends and challenges shaping the global enforcement environment.
