Key Facts:

Three individuals have been charged as part of an investigation into modern slavery.

The investigation relates to the activity of a company operating in various parts of the UK which provides staff to local authorities and the National Health Service (NHS). A woman who travelled from Botswana to the UK was promised work upon arrival but was allegedly forced to work long hours without pay, with little food, and had her passport taken.

The three individuals have been charged with the following offences in connection with the investigation:

  •  Requiring someone to perform forced or compulsory labour (Modern Slavery Act 2015, section 1);
  • Conspiring to arrange or facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation (Modern Slavery Act 2015, section 2); and
  • Facilitating the commission of a breach of UK immigration law by a non-EU person (Immigration Act 1971, section 25).

The three individuals have been summoned to appear before Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 28 October 2025.
