In recent coverage by Law360 UK and Solicitors Journal, Michael O’Kane has been featured with his comments on the UK government’s plans to increase OFSI’s maximum sanctions penalties.

Michael noted that many OFSI enforcement cases to date have involved negligent breaches or compliance system failures occurring during a period of rapid sanctions expansion, rather than deliberate sanctions evasion. He suggested that increasing the maximum level of financial penalties may have limited impact where breaches arise from operational challenges rather than intentional misconduct.
