CPS drops prosecution of prominent Egyptian activist

The prosecution of Ahmed Abdelkader ‘Mido’, a former professional footballer, political activist and President of the Egyptian Youth Union in Europe, has been discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Mido was arrested on 25 August 2025 and subsequently charged with public order offences in connection with an incident at a café in West London, where he was ambushed by multiple individuals linked to disorder at Egyptian embassies worldwide.

The case was discontinued on the basis that there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction, following detailed representations from Peters & Peters in advance of an abuse of process application due to be heard at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Mido was represented by Michael O’Kane and Patrick Ormerod, supported by Emily Evans and Ahmed Alzaeem. Jacob Bindman and Natalie Lucas of Doughty Street Chambers were also instructed.
