Peters & Peters Partner, Charlotte Tregunna, commenced her Presidential mandate at AIJA (the International Association of Young Lawyers) during the AIJA Annual Congress in Vienna in August 2026.
AIJA is a global association for lawyers and in-house counsel aged 45 and under, bringing together more than 6,000 members across over 100 countries. Since 1962, it has created opportunities for young lawyers to learn from one another, build international networks and contribute to the issues shaping the legal profession.
Charlotte has been closely involved with AIJA for many years, holding a number of leadership roles before her election last year as First Vice President, leading to her Presidency this year. Charlotte will focus on the theme “Building Bridges – Leading What Comes Next”, reflecting her belief that young lawyers are not simply the leaders of the future, but are already leading and shaping the profession today.
Her priorities include raising the ambition for how lawyers learn and develop through AIJA, strengthening engagement across its international membership, expanding the association’s reach into new regions, and ensuring that young lawyers have a meaningful voice in discussions about the future of the profession.
AIJA’s work spans 18 academic commissions and an international programme of events and other initiatives. Alongside professional development and cross border collaboration, the association is active in defending the rule of law and human rights and engaging with some of the most significant questions facing the profession.
Charlotte said: “AIJA has had an extraordinary impact on my career. It has taken me around the world, introduced me to people who have become close friends and trusted colleagues, and given me opportunities I could never have anticipated when I first joined.
“I am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to lead an association that I care so deeply about. My theme for the year is ‘Building Bridges – Leading What Comes Next’. At a time when the world can feel increasingly divided, I want AIJA to keep doing what it does best: bringing people together across countries, cultures, generations, practice areas and perspectives. I want us to be ambitious about what comes next. Young lawyers are not just the future of our profession: we are already leading it. I want AIJA to give us the connections, skills, opportunities and voice to do that.”
Everyone at Peters & Peters congratulates Charlotte on assuming her Presidential mandate and wishes her every success during her year as President.
