Anna Bradshaw has been quoted in a new report by Karam Shaar Advisory examining the anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions and compliance challenges facing Syrian banks as they seek to reconnect with the international financial system.
The report, Beyond Evaluations: Risk Indices and the Challenges Syrian Banks Face Outside FATF, explores how risk assessments, regulatory technology providers and commercial data sources influence perceptions of higher-risk jurisdictions and affect access to correspondent banking relationships and international financial services.
Commenting on the wider challenges faced by jurisdictions seeking to rebuild financial sector confidence, Anna notes:
“There’s nothing that is particularly unique about Syria to merit a Syria-driven intervention because this issue is pervasive.”
The report provides a detailed analysis of Syria’s efforts to strengthen its AML/CFT framework and reintegrate into the global banking system, alongside the practical challenges faced by financial institutions operating in higher-risk environments.
