Partner Anna Bradshaw comments in the Global Investigations Review (GIR) on the government’s announcement that it would not seek to participate in the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) system, proposing instead to negotiate a mechanism similar to the EU’s Surrender Agreement with Iceland and Norway. “The EAW is hugely beneficial”, she said, adding that the warrants significantly reduce the time it takes for countries to extradite individuals from other EU member states. They also limit the number of grounds on which countries within the bloc can challenge extradition requests.  She states that “the surrender agreement is far from as good as the EAW”.  Read more
