On 24 October, the then Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders unveiled the latest version of the CPS’s Code for Crown Prosecutors (the “Code”) in what was one of her last public acts at the helm of the agency. The publication of the revised Code – which replaces the previous version that had been in force since January 2013 – was directly preceded by a number of well-publicised disclosure failings by the police and the CPS which resulted in high-profile cases involving serious offences (notably, rape and grievous bodily harm) collapsing at the brink of trial.
