Our annual trainee intake is deliberately small, so we can really focus on turning you into Peters & Peters specialists. That makes a difference. Over half of our partners were once trainees here too.

“I really enjoy the combination of a social working environment with high quality, interesting work. Everyone knows everyone and people get on well with each other, so the atmosphere is always really friendly and pleasant. The culture is balanced with compelling cases that rival that of magic circle firms. It’s the best of both worlds.”

Stefan Ansah, Associate

As a Peters & Peter’s trainee you will have the unique opportunity to carry out two dedicated litigation seats and a third distinct area of your choice through an external secondment.

All trainees share an office with a partner or senior lawyer for maximum on-the-job learning. Each trainee is also allocated a mentor for support and advice, a supervisor for feedback and guidance, and a buddy to show you the ropes.

Plus of course we offer comprehensive training, ongoing feedback and regular performance reviews.

What we look for

You’ll need to be tenacious, driven and committed to a steep learning curve.

In return you will benefit from early responsibility, plenty of support and high quality and stimulating work.

As ours is very much a people business, candidates must demonstrate strong presentation and communication skills, as well as the ability to work well in teams.

Applicants should be commercially aware and demonstrate a keen interest in our work. They will also be proactive, enthusiastic and have a sense of humour.

We are looking for trainees with strong academic ability, who will be able to cope with complex legal issues and technical drafting. We recruit from a wide range of universities, taking both law and non-law graduates who have achieved a degree at 2.1 level or above.

How to apply

The deadline to apply for our training contract intake (commencing in Autumn 2025) has now passed.

My journey: Trainee Solicitor

I joined the firm in 2022, first sitting in Business Crime before moving on to Fraud & Commercial Disputes, and I am really enjoying it. I’ve seen a fraud case from start to finish, which has been a great experience, and I’ve worked on other very high-profile and edgy cases, including a sanctions matter where I liaised with overseas lawyers and even the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. I have been in court several times already.

People here are at the top of their field, but they are nonetheless really friendly and supportive. They are happy to answer questions even if you’re worried it might be something you should already know. They’re helpful and understand trainees are just starting out.

Because you get the opportunity to speak to clients, barristers and other law firms directly, it’s easy to develop better interpersonal skills and improve all the time.

For example, I attended an interview with a client who was initially quite nervous. It was a real eye-opener to see how the Peters & Peters partner put the client at ease – by the time we were back at our office we were all relaxed, making jokes and chatting about the partner’s dog. You learn so much more in this firm than just law and procedure.

I get on really well with my colleagues here. The firm is very sociable and there’s barely been a week without a social event of some kind, or even some drinks after work. Because the firm is small and specialised, with around 65 lawyers it’s easy to get to know everyone well. This is a less formal, and more fun, place to work.
