Russian Billionaire Extradition Request

Peters & Peters acted for the billionaire owner of a major drinks company who faced an attempt by the Government of the Russian Federation to extradite him to Moscow to face criminal fraud and trademark charges. We advised in respect of corporate and personal liability in a number of different jurisdictions and defended the extradition proceedings brought in the UK. In these proceedings, we served detailed expert and factual evidence which severely undermined the factual allegations made by the Russian Government and demonstrated the political motivation behind the request for extradition. We also secured the attendance of a former Russian Prime Minister to give live evidence on behalf of our client. The UK refused the Russian Government’s request for extradition and our client was discharged from extradition proceedings in the UK.
