Peters & Peters are advising Dr Ramin Pouladian-Kari on his appeal against conviction for attempting to breach an EU restriction on exports to Iran. Dr Pouladian had a contract to supply electrical switchgear to a factory in Tehran. At some point the UK department of Business Innovation and Skills (‘BIS) indicated that a particular shipment could not be sent to Iran as certain items therein had been designated ‘dual-use’. After a trial before a jury Dr Pouladian was convicted. He has now instructed Peters & Peters to advise on his appeal against conviction and related matters of confiscation and condemnation of goods.
