Houghton (Former MI6 Agent and Official Secrets Act Offences)

Former MI6 agent Daniel Houghton was convicted of attempting to sell classified material to Dutch intelligence. Further to Daniel Houghton’s guilty pleas to two Official Secret Act 1989 offences submissions were made on his mitigating circumstances; following which, on 3 September 2010, Mr Houghton was sentenced to one years’ imprisonment for each of the two offences to run concurrently. Daniel Houghton had spent 184 days on remand in prison and this time was deemed to count towards his sentence. Accordingly he was released from the court, on licence, on the day of his sentencing hearing.

Head of Department Michael O’Kane, Partner Anand Doobay and Associate Rachel Cook acted.
