Accountant Accused of Fraud by the Russian Federation

In the case of The government of the Russian Federation v Dmitry Maruev and Natalia Chernysheva we represented Yukos’ former Deputy Chief Accountant accused by the Russian Federation of fraud.

The case excited significant media interest and ended in a sensational ruling in his favour, barring his extradition on the basis that the request was politically motivated. This resulted in the client’s discharge.

The case involved a wide ranging evidence gathering exercise and consideration of numerous linked proceedings, both civil and criminal, in Russia, the UK and other jurisdictions.

Peters & Peters continues to act for a number of other former executives of Yukos and other individuals associated with the company and are currently dealing with three extradition proceedings (in the UK and another EU country) arising from requests made by the Russian Federation.
