Announcement Re New Partner at Peters & Peters

Peters & Peters are delighted to announce that Jasvinder Nakhwal became a Partner in its Business Crime Department on Friday 1 October 2010. Jasvinder trained with Peters & Peters, before qualifying in 2002. 

Jasvinder has in-depth experience in highly complex extradition and mutual legal assistance matters. She also has a strong expertise in dealing with cartel investigations undertaken by the European Commission, Office of Fair Trading, the US Department of Justice and investigating authorities in other jurisdictions, such as in Canada and Australia . Jasvinder has broad experience in money laundering cases, cases before the Solicitors' Disciplinary Tribunal, investigations by the Serious Fraud Office, HM Revenue & Customs and the Ministry of Defence.

In 2008, she acted for the Managing Director of Dunlop Oil and Marine Ltd, the first person to be charged with the criminal cartel offence in the UK, playing a key role in negotiations with the OFT and the US Department of Justice that concluded in the innovative “Marine Hose Deal” http://www.oft.gov.uk/about-the-oft/legal-powers/enforcement_regulation/prosecutions1/concluded  

In May 2010, she successfully defended 2 of the 4 British Airways executives who faced prosecution in the UK (the first contested criminal cartel case in t he UK) for allegations of price fixing with Virgin Atlantic Airways http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/may/10/ba-price-fixing-trial-collapses. 

As well as writing numerous articles for legal publications e.g. Thepleathatcrossedthesea.pdf and HardcoreBargains.pdf, Jasvinder is a contributing author to Michael O’Kane’s “The Law of Criminal Cartels Practice and Procedure” (published September 2009, Oxford University Press). Jasvinder has also contributed to a chapter in the publication "Cordery on Solicitors" on Money Laundering and speaks regularly at conferences on her areas of expertise.
